Who is Kokushibo?
Kokushibo was a human five centuries ago and his name was Michikatsu Tsugikuni. When he was in his human form, he was a demon slayer. He is also a brother of Yoriichi Tsugikuni.
After being a demon, he joined the 12 Kizuki which is controlled by Muzan. Among 12 Kizuki, he is Upper-Rank One.
He shows his partial appearance in Chapter 98 whereas he shows his full appearance in chapter 99 of the manga. Also, he has made a new breathing style known as Moon Breathing. More information about him is below:

Backstory of Kokushibo
As a human, Kokushibo was a very good swordsman. He was born along with his twin brother Yoriichi in the Sengoku period. His mother’s name is Akeno Tsugikuni. In the Sengoku period, twins were taken as a bad omen. Hence, his brother, Yoriichi was getting hatred whereas he was getting quite good care from his father. The reason for it was his brother had a mark on his forehead but he did not have it.
He started training at a very young age. Along with it, he was getting a good education too. Even more, his brother was also encouraged to learn swordsmanship. As well, he respects demon slayers a lot. When his mother died, he found his mother already knew that his brother was aware of his mother’s death. He was able to know it from his mother’s diary. While he was growing he even got a demon slayer mark like his brother.
Why Kokushibo became a Demon?
The problem for him started when he got the demon slayer mark. The time he got the demon slayer mark, he gained strength whereas he got a curse too. Due to this curse, he only has a life span of 25 of his age. Also, he fears death and he wanted to live a long life. So, in order to extend his lifespan he becomes a demon in order to become immortal. Even more, to become a demon he also left his wife as well as two children.
Kokushibo as a demon
The wish of his living life comes true when he changes into a demon. In addition, he was able to live a life for 480 years even having the curse of demon slayer mark. Being a powerful demon with his unique breathing style he was placed number one in the Twelve Kizuki. But, his power was not enough to beat up his brother. In his demon form, he is able to use both breathing style and Blood Demon Art. Moving on, he did not leave his katana but he develops it with his own flesh.
Kokushibo vs Yoriichi Tsugikuni
Kokushibo meet his brother for battle when his brother was old in the age. Also, he greatly wants to win over him. Though his brother was very old, he still has the power within him. Due, to Yoriichi’s speed he was able to cut the throat of Kokushibo very fast. Then, he was going to attack his brother with his sword. But, he was not able to do so and his brother died from aging. His dream to beat his brother in the fight was not completed.
Moon Breathing Style
Kokushibo was learning the Sun Breathing Technique which his brother uses. But, he was not able to master it. So, he form a new technique derived from Sun Breathing and named it as Moon Breathing technique. This style follows the moon-like crescent shapes while attacking the opponent. This technique is later used by Michikatsu who was the first demon slayer who utilized Total Concentration Breathing. This breathing makes the user inhale maximum air and exhale in a pattern to use physical as well as mental abilities.
Who are the descendants of Kokushibo?
Muichiro Tokito
The descendant of Kokushibo is Muichiro Tokito. As of now, his descendant is a mist hashira. We were able to know that he was his descendant in the Infinity Castle. Where Muichiro was feeling fear from the sense of the demon and he thought the demon could be very powerful.
Whereas, Muichiro was smelling familiarity towards Muichiro. Also, Kokushibo tells him that he descendant by blood and he explains their relationship. Muichiro was shocked hearing it. But, Muichiro did not accept it and tells that he was lying.
Yuichiro Tokito
Yuichiro Tokito is the twin brother of Muichiro Tokito. He was killed by the demon which caused Muichiro Tokito to be a demon slayer.
Is Kokushibo related to Tanjiro?
In the manga, it is said that Kokushibo and Muichiro are related to each other. But, Yoriichi and Tanjiro are not related to each other. Whereas, Yoriichi’s hanofuda earring is passed to Tanjiro by his father. As a result, they do not have a relation between them. But, as a demon and the demon slayer, they both are enemies of each other.
Kokushibo vs Muzan
Kokushibo is very loyal to Muzan. He also does everything that is the goal of the Muzan. Moving towards Kokushibo vs Muzan, Muzan is the one who created Kokushibo as a demon. So, Kokushibo’s speed and reflex cannot match the powers of Muzan. Anyway, their fight is not in the series. If they fight with each other we can expect that Kokushibo will now last more than 15 minutes in the battle with Muzan.
Who killed Kokushibo?
During his final fight, he changed himself into the final form. In this form, he was looking like a monster. As a result, he chose not to regenerate himself. So, as an advantage, the demon slayers started attacking him continuously. He was not able to stand up again even though he was not able to question him. Thus, he has a very tragic ending.
The ones to make this happen were Himejima and Sanemi. These two demon slayers were able to kill Kokushibo and sent him to hell.
