Who is Maki Zenin in Jujutsu Kaisen?

Maki Zenin is a second-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High. In addition, Maki belongs to the Zenin family. Also, she is the elder twin sister of Mai Zenin. She is a Jujutsu sorcerer along with Panda and Toge Inumaki. More information about her is as follows:

Who are the voice artists of Maki Zenin?

The Japanese voice for the character is contributed by the Japanese voice actress, Mikako Komatsu. Whereas, the English voice for the character is portrayed by the American voice actress, Allerga Clark.

Appearance

Maki is a young girl with a height of 5 feet 7 inches (170 cm). She has dark green hair and golden eyes. Usually, she tied her hair in ponytails. Adding on, she used to wear glasses, which helped her see the curses. Also, she used to wear the Jujutsu High student uniform, which is a long-sleeve jacket with a shirt.

Maki Zenin: Birth, Father, Mother, Backstory, Sister, Childhood

Mai was born into the Zenin Clan along with her twin sister, Mai Zenin. Her father’s name is Ogi Zenin. Her dad, Ogi happens to be a very powerful sorcerer. Also, he happens to be the next in line to be head of the Zenin clan. However, his brother, Naobito was selected as the head of the family.

Ogi was very strict father. Maki and Mai were used to punish them if they did not do things right. Adding to this, Maki was unable to see the cursed spirits. Not having curse energy makes her family have bad impacts on her. As a result, at the age of 14, she left her home with the motive of becoming the head in the future.

At the age of 15, she joins Jujutsu High, and Gojo is her teacher. Heading on, she was formed into a team along with Toge Inumaki, Panda, and Yuta Okkotsu.

Despite what she gets from the family, she still wants to help her family. Among her sorcerer friends, she is only friends with Toge and Panda. As well, she does not like to get help from others and wants to do things on her own. Adding on, she is also a follower of Toji Fushiguro, as he was a powerful ex-Zenin clan member.

How Maki Zenin becomes a monster?

From the very first chapter, we were able to know that Maki does not have any cursed energy. But her physical ability was stronger than that of any other Jujutsu sorcerer. When Mai Zenin died, her cursed energy got along with Maki Zenin. So, Maki was able to gain the cursed energy that she was seeking from her childhood. With it, she was able to heal the physical injuries too.

As she gained the cursed energy, she became way too powerful. In the past, when they were 16 years old, her father fought with them. They both lost to his father. So his father punished them. In the meantime, Mai sacrifices herself and provides cursed energy as well as a weapon to Maki.

Mai was able to remove all of Maki’s energy. To redress the pain she and her sister, Mai, have been getting since their childhood, she kills her father. After all, she started the massacre of the Zenin Clan. Maki certainly becomes a monster after all.

Maki removes the Zenin clan from the Three Great Families

The three great families in the Jujutsu Kaisen series are the Zenin Family, the Gojo Family, and the Kamo Family. After getting lots of torture and gaining cursed energy from Mai, Maki was headed for the massacre of the Zenin clan. She starts the massacre by killing her father. As part of the Zenin Massacre II, she killed Chojuro, Nobuaki, Ranta, and Jinichi Zenin when she was 16 years old.

After Zenin Massacre IV, she goes to fight Naoya and even defeats her. After defeating her, she killed her own mother too. In the final massacre, Naoya was still alive, but the cursed energy controlling Maki’s mom killed Naoya with her last breath. Thus, Maki was able to vote to remove the Zenin clan from the Great Three Families.

Power and Abilities

Master hand-to-hand combat

From the very beginning, Maki has a very high amount of strength without the curse energy. So, she starts to practice without curse energy in order to become one of the great jujutsu sorcerers. As a result, she has become very good in close combat battles. Along with the punches, she can also throw kicks at the same time.

High Initilligence

Along with her fighting abilities, she is very intelligent too. As she has good strength, she utilizes it with her intellect and is more powerful while fighting with the cursed spirits.

Endurance

Though Maki does not have any cursed energy, she used to fight with the strong spirits too. Adding on, due to her physical strength, she was able to stand the fight, though she was burned by Jogo. Even though her father sliced her, she was able to heal herself too.

Red Naginata

Red Naginata is the cursed tool that Maki used when she was in first year. Adding to that, she has used it to kill a lot of cursed spirits.

Glasses

Maki does not have any curses from her birth. So, her glasses allow her to see the cursed spirit and cursed energy.

Dragon-Bone

Dragon-Bone is also a master piece of Juzo Kumiya’s. It can create force and cursed energy from the back of the user. To get it, she goes directly to Juzo’s workshop.

Split Soul Katana

It is the katana that Mai left her before sacrificing herself. The katana is more powerful than her first sword, as it can cut any spirit.

Battles

Cursed Child Arc

• Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin vs. Cursed Spirits

It is her first battle as a sorcerer. As she does not have the cursed energy, she finds it very difficult to fight. Even more, she does not have any resistance to the cursed energy. Thus, she was swallowed by the cursed spirit. Anyway, Yuta fights and saves Maki in the meantime. Later, Maki and Yuta start to train together.

Kyoto Exchange Event

• Maki Zenin vs. Kasumi Miwa

After lots of practice, Maki’s first opponent in the Kyoto Exchange Event was Kasumi Miwa. She was able to win over Miwa too. Heading on, Miwa keeps on telling herself she’s useless. Though it was harder for her to go against the new shadow style, she managed to win over Miwa.

• Maki Zenin vs. Mai Zenin

After winning the fight with Miwa, she has her fight with Mai Zenin. A battle between two twin sisters Maki waits until her revolver is finished. As she thinks that Mai’s bullets have finished, she goes attacking with her sword, but Mai uses her technique, construction. Anyway, Maki was able to stop the bullet with her bare hand and win over her sister.

Perfection Preparation Arc

• Maki Zenin vs Ogi Zenin

It was a fight between Maki and her father. Ogi keeps on showing his great swordsmanship. In this battle, Mai sacrifices her body in order to heal Maki and provides her with a weapon too. Ogi was planning to burn her daughter to death. But Maki manages to cut the head off of Ogi. As a result, Maki wins over her father and kills him.

• Maki Zenin vs. Kukurku Unit

The battle takes place inside Zenin’s household between Maki and the Kukuru unit of Zenin’s clan. Maki was able to stab one of the men with their knife and even use her dragon bone to kill them. In a short period of time, she was able to kill the Kuruku Unit. As she kills the Kuruku unit, Nobuaki arrives there.

• Maki Zenin vs. Naoya Zenin

While fighting with Naoya, Maki had already gained the cursed energy. Naoya tried his best to defeat her but was not able to do so. After all, without finishing him off, Maki goes to his mother. She even cut her mother’s throat.

Whereas, Naoya was telling her about the imposter and why she was not killing him. Later, Maki’s mother arrives there, as Naoyo was not able to use his curse energy. Maki’s mother’s throat was also full of blood, and she stabbed Naoya and killed him too. It was the battle that resulted in the massacre of the Zenin Clan.
