The Case Study of Vanitas

The Case Study of Vanitas is a dark fantasy, steampunk, and supernatural Japanese manga and anime series. The manga artist, Jun Mochizuki illustrated the manga. The manga was first serialized in December 2015 in Square Enix’s shōnen manga magazine Monthly Gangan Joker.

Moving towards the anime, the anime was first serialized on July 3, 2021, on the English Network, Aniplus Asia. The anime is directed by Tomoyuki Itamura and written by Deko Akao.

Main Plot

The main plot of the anime is based on the Vampire doctor Vanitas born under the blue moon who grew with fear and pain. Vanitas also created a curse grimoire named “Book of Vanitas”.

The vampire Noé Archiviste meets Vanitas, a man who claims himself as a doctor of the vampire while he was having an airship ride in Paris. Treating the Vampires Vanitas makes them control over preying on other animals. Book of Vanitas which he used to heal the Vampires is hated by the Vampires of the Red moon. Red moon vampires are the ones who formed the society of vampires. Noé and Vanitas work together with the force to heal the Vampires. Charlatan forces corrupt the vampire and become odd against Noé and Vanit

Characters

Vanitas

Vanitas is the main protagonist of the Japanese anime series Case Study of Vanitas. The Book named “Bool of Vanitas” was made by him and he is the doctor specialist for the vampires. To save the vampires against the disease named Malnomen, he and a vampire sent by his teacher Noé Archiviste start the research on the Book of Vanitas. His mother died early and started to live with his father. Their group was attacked by vampires and Vanitas was only to survive. Then after he was picked by the catholic church and trained to become religious expert. Doctor Moreau faked his death and was taken as a test subject where he met Misha. They both could heal faster as they got the blood of Blue Moon vampires.

The Japanese voice for the character is provided by the Japanese voice actor Hanai Natsuki. Hanai is affiliated with Across Entertainment.

Moving towards the English dubbed version, the American voice actor Zeno Robinson provided the voice.

Noé Archiviste

Noé Archiviste is the central protagonist of the Japanese anime series Case Study of Vanitas. Noé is the vampire raised in the French village. As his task, he was sent by his teacher to find the Book of Vanitas and its true intention. While doing so he meets the human owner of the book and vampire doctor Vanitas. The target to cure the vampires against the disease Malnomern, Noé finds it a good idea and starts to help Vanitas with the research.

Heading towards the English dubbed version, the voice is provided by the American voice actor Stephen Fu.

Murr

Murr is the cat owned by the vampire Noé Archiviste. Murr keeps enjoying with Vanitas and loves to sleep on his lap. As a companion, he goes to Parsi with Noé and Vanitas to heal the cursed vampire, Amelia Ruth. Amelia also got the company of Murr approached her while at first she was frightened.

The Japanese voice for the character is voiced by the Japanese voice actress Miyu Komaki.

Whereas, for the English dubbed version the American voice actress Marianne Bray provided the voice.

Fanny

Fanny is the supporting character of the Japanese anime series Case Study of Vanitas and vampire from Crimson moon. At the time of exploring the Averoigne forest, she met Noé, Louis, and Dominique and became close friends. Finding that her friend Mina was going to be executed, she bring her to the secret base. Mina’s transformation then made Fanny and Gills run. Unknowingly, Louis appears and kills Mina as well as drinks blood from Gills and Fanny after killing them.

The Japanese voice actress, Emiri Suyama voiced the character. She is a singer and actress by profession. Currently, she is affiliated with Dear Stage. Also, for the English dubbed version the American voice actress Amber Lee Connors provided the voice.

Dominique de Sade

Dominique de Sade is also known as Domi. Domi is a vampire from Crimson Moon and a childhood friend of Noé Archiviste. Through her grandfather, he met Noé. While she does not have trust in Vanitas. Dominique grew up with her biological parents Altus Paris and Averoigne. Louis ad Domi meet with Noé through her grandfather as Noé was her grandfather’s student. The friendship bond was formed very quickly between them. As time passes by she even develops romantic feelings toward Noé Archiviste.

The Japanese voice actress Ai Kayano portrayed the character Dominique de Sade.

The American voice actress and ADR director Alexis Tipto provided the English voice for the character. Alexis is affiliated with Funimation.

Louis de Sade

Louis de Sade is aristocracy and Vampier of the Crimson. He is also a curse bearer. Due to this reason, he was sent to live his Teacher permanently by Count de Sade.

Living with his grandfather, he got a chance to meet Noé which leads them to become good friends. Charlatan wants to control him but they were not able to do so because of his awareness of it and especially with the help of his grandfather. Saving Noé and Dominique he killed Mina but unwantedly he killed Fanny and Gills too. Later on, his grandfather killed him as Noé was not able to do so.

The Japanese voice for The character is provided by the Japanese voice actress Miyuri Shimabukuro. Miyuri is affiliated with Office Osawa

Moving towards the English dubbed version, the American voice actor Ciarán Strange provided the voice.

Jeanne

Jeanne is the Vampire born during the war and once assigned to execute the vampires among which some of them were her kins too. Even she killed a large number of vampires. Also, she served as a bodyguard of Lucius Oriflamme.

Suffering from diseases like Malnomen, she become addicted and seek the blood. The actual disease and reason for behind the disease is still a mystery.

The japanese voice actor, Inori Minase voiced the character. Minase is also singer by profession. Heading towards the English dubbed version, the American voice actress Molly Searcy. Some of her projects include Dororo, Beyond the Boundary, and No Game No Life.

Parks Orlok

Parks Orlok is a vampire from the Japanese anime series Case Study of Vanitas. The queen appointed as the representative of the vampire in the mid of the war between humans and vampires. At the time, his primary job was to maintain balance between two races.

Orlok took Vanitas  into custody when he discovered the Book of Vanitas Noé. After that, he also tried to unlock the power of the book.

The Japanese voice actor, Itaru Yamamoto voiced the character. Also, for the English dubbed version the American voice actor Cris George provided the voice. Some of his projects include All Out!!, Black Clover, and My Hero Academia.

Jean-Jacques Chastel

Jean-Jacques Chastel is Vampire from the Crimson Moon. His main motto of him is to protect Chloé d’Apchier. Jean-Jacques is a secret vampire living away from the vampire. In the silver forest, he met Chloé and wants to be strengthful enough to protect her. Having a contract with Naenia he transforms himself into the Beast of Gévaudan developing Malnomen for getting more strength.

The japanese voice actor, Daiko Hamano voice the character, Jean. Also, for the English dubbed version the American voice actor, J. Michael voiced the character. Michael is also ADR director, and scriptwriter by profession. He worked for Funimation/OkraTron 5000 and Bang Zoom! Entertainment.

Dante

Dante is Dhampis, Dhampis are the hybrid who exist and live with humans. Working as a broker he often partners with Vanitas, selling the information about the Curse-Bearing. Curse Bearers Johann and Riche disappear which investigation is under the control of Dante. Acting as the broker later on he provides this information to Noé and Vanitas. Entirely, he spends his early life alone as he was both human and vampire and has no home also. Even more, he was not also close to his parents.

The voice actor, Taro Kiuchi contributed his voice to the character. In this anime world, he is popular for providing a voice for anime like One Punch Man and High-Rank Invasion.

The American voice actor and voice director Ian Sinclair provided the English voice for the character. Ian works for Funimation and Sentai Filmworks. Some of his projects include Attack On Titan, My Hero Academia, and One Piece.
