The Wallflower

The Wallflower is a comedy Japanese manga and series. The manga is written by the Manga Artist, Tomoko Hayakawa. In 2000, the manga was first serialized in Bessastsu Friend. As of now, the manga has 36 tankōbon volumes.

Moving towards the anime, the anime was first aired on October 3, 2006, on the network, TV Tokyo. The anime is directed by the director Shinichi Watanabe. Also, the anime is completed with 25 lists of episodes.

The Wallflower- Main Plot

The main plot of the anime is based on a girl named Sunako Nakahara. Sadly, she gets rejected by the boy she loves. The boy tells her that she is very ugly. By which she started to become a worse person. As well as, She starts to dislike beauty. Later, she goes to live with her Auntie in a mansion. At the mansion, four handsome boys live for free without paying the rent. Furthermore, her aunt makes a deal with the boys. The deal was they would live free if they turned Sunako into a good and beautiful lady until she returned from the world trip.

Though they try to make her beautiful physically. Moreover, She still has a different attitude. It is a light-hearted story that follows Sunako and the boys with strange scenarios. Sunako seems to challenge the concept of self and beauty. The anime shows whether she is able to change herself or not.

Characters of The Wallflower

1. Sunako Nakahara- The Wallflower

Sunako Nakahara is the main protagonist of the series, The Wallflower. Also, she is the only child of her mother and father. After she was rejected by the person she loves, she takes herself in dark. Even more, she started watching horror and blood movies. Actually, she is very beautiful and has good skin. Currently, she is a student in her first year.

The Japanese voice for the character is provided by the Japanese voice actress, Yukiko Takaguchi. Some of her projects include Fantastic Children, Super Robot Wars Z, and We Without Wings.

Moving towards the English dubbed version, the American voice actress Hannah Alcorn provided the voice.

2. Kyohei Takano

Kyohei Takano is a very handsome boy. Along with him Takenaga, Ranmaru, and Yuki are praised by the entire school for their looks. Additionally, among the four of them, Kyohei is the most attractive. Because of that Kyohei seems to be more selfish. Furthermore, he also acts rude to Sunako but acts well if it decreases the rent. Among the four, Kyohei is closer to Sunako. He also enjoys watching horror movies with her. But Sunako dislikes being with him. As she thinks she hates to be with one of the attractive creatures.

The Japanese voice for the character is contributed by the Japanese actor, voice actor, and singer Showtaro Morikubo. Previously, Showtaro was affiliated with I’m Enterprise.

Heading towards the English dubbed version, the American voice actor and ADR scriptwriter Joshua Grelle provided the voice.

3. Mine Nakahara

Mine Nakahara is aunt of Sunako Nakahara. Also, she is known as Auntie and The Landlady. Furthermore, she wants the four boys to turn Sunako into a beautiful lady until she returns from her trip. Using the very least effort she can scare the boys. Being a lonely person, she dates many of the boys. But she didn’t love anyone as she does for her late husband. Though Sunako wants to become like her, she wants to change Sunako and she smile on her face.

The Japanese voice for the character is portrayed by the Japanese actress, voice actress, and narrator Yuka Komatsu. Yuka is affiliated with Aoni Production. Some of her projects include Witch Hunter Robin, Blade of The Immortal, and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt.

Whereas, the English voice for the character is provided by the American voice actress and scriptwriter Tiffany Lynn Grant.

4. Takenaga Oda

Takenaga Oda is a calm and understandable boy. Even he also has a girlfriend named Noi. In addition, he is very good at studying. Due to his traditional family, he was sent to his aunt’s mansion to live a normal life. After arriving, he starts only reading while Yuki wants to start a friendship with him. As auntie tells four boys to change Sunako. Moreover, he changes his education and also becomes her math tutor.

The Japanese voice for the character is played by the Japanese voice actor and author Tomokazu Sugita.

Also, the English voice for the character is provided by the American voice actor and musician Vic Mignogna.

5. Noi Kasahara

Noi Kasahara is girl friend of Takenaga Oda. As well, she is a good friend of Sunako. Many people consider her as a Belle because of her beauty. Furthermore, she is very protective of her friends. Despite being a girl she is not good and housework. Finding that Sunako lives with Takenaga, she was very jealous of her. But later, she realizes she really does hard work in housework and in cooking food for the four boys. Besides it, she belongs to an upper-middle-class family.

The Japanese voice for the character is voiced by the Japanese voice actress and singer Mai Nakahara.

The English voice for the character is provided by the American film, television, and voice actress Jessica Boone.

6. Yukinojo Toyama

Yukinojo Toyama is also known as Yuki. Yuki is from a poor family. And before arriving at the mansion he worked as a household. After Sunako enters the mansion he basically works as a commander. By the way, he uses to command Sunako for the lady behavior. Whenever Yuki feels hesitant in cooking, Sunako lends a hand to him. Auntie and her mother are very old friends.

The Japanese voice for the character is provided by the Japanese voice actor Yamauchi Yuuya.

Moving towards the English dubbed version, the American voice actor Greg Ayers provided the voice. In this anime world, he is known for providing a voice for anime like Clannad, Initial D, and Full Metal Panic.

7. Ranmaru Morii

Ranmaru Morii is the playboy among the four boys. Having good looks he is very attractive towards girls. As well as he thinks of himself as one of the experts to turn Sunako into a lady. Moreover, he often creates a dating scenario. And sends Kyohei to take Susano to movie dates. In addition, Ranmaru is from a very rich family. As his parents think he needs to face reality, his parents send him to auntie’s house. But he only thinks about sleeping with women. A girl named Tamao is already engaged with him. Even his family members admire her. Because she is very smart, they thought she is the only one who can change him.

8. Tamao Kikunoi
