Requiem of the Rose King

Requiem of the Rose King is a dark fantasy, historical drama, and romance Japanese manga and anime series. The manga is written and illustrated by the Manga Artist, Ayo Kanno. On 4 October 2013, the manga was first serialized in Akita Shoten’s Monthly Princess Magazine.

Moving towards the anime, the anime was first aired on 9 January 2022 in the Network, Tokyo MX. The anime is directed by the director Kentarō Suzuki and written by Hiroki Uchida.

Requiem of the Rose King- Main Plot

The monarchy of England is one the material for the source of history. As well, the civil war held in England which is called the war of the roses got happened in the middle ages. Moreover, The Duke of York wants to depose the king’s heir in order to take over the throne. Furthermore, the Duke had a son whose name is Richard Plantagenet. Richard III possesses both qualities of the male and female, immediately despised by his mother. His upbringing is defined by her hatred.

Which leads to a deep dislike for his own body. As well, that creates a negative impact on himself as a demon. Moreover, England thinks that he is a foe, and can bring problems towards the people. Also, Richard thinks that the only way to save himself is by assisting his father to get the throne. The anime follows as he can make the deal or attract everyone towards the darkness.

Requiem of the Rose King- Characters

1. Richard III

Richard III is the son of the Duke of York. Also, her mother’s attitude towards him leads him to think that he is a demon. Being an intersex he shows the both character of male as well as female. When there are people around him, he becomes somewhat silent. Furthermore, the reason he has become this type of dual-gender personality is because of her mother thinking that he is cursed. Moreover, looking at the treatment of her mother towards him let Richard think that he is really a devil. As a result, he wants to involve in various fights than building up a relationship with others.

The Japanese voice for the character is provided by the Japanese voice actress and singer Mitsuki Saiga. At the 4th Seiyuu Awards, she won the Overseas Fan Award.

Moving towards the English dubbed version, the American voice actor Ciarán Strange provided the voice.

2. Richard, Duke of York

Richard, Duke of York is the father of Richard III. Moreover, he got executed from the throne for the reason of betraying the kingdom. Also, he got executed when the House of Lancaster took control of the kingdom. Warwick is eager to assist Richard in getting the throne back. As he believes that if the Duke of York is king, then only the kingdom will progress. Moving on, Richard decides to battle with Lancaster to get his kingdom back. In addition, he started uniting his resources and army. Later Henry IV provides him the throne back to him. Whereas, Richard denies retreating and defeating him.

The Japanese voice for the character is contributed by the Japanese actor, voice actor, and singer Sei Ôhama. In this anime world, he is known for providing a voice for anime like Dragon Ball Z, Detective Conan, and Bleach.

Heading towards the English dubbed version, the American voice actor, ADR director, and scriptwriter  J. Michael Tatum provided the voice.

3. Anne Neville

Anne Neville’s father is Warwick. Even more, she has two husbands the first one is Edward of Lancaster, and the second is Richard III. As she was traveling alone in the big jungle with the help of a pig, she met Richard III. Moreover, she got surprised when she comes to know that Richard III is from the House of York. Moving she starts to have a crush on Richard III. Later at the banquet, they utilize their time by practicing dance together. In addition, they learn various styles and techniques of fighting. Also, she says that she feels him more than people and he is very different.

The Japanese voice for the character is portrayed by the Japanese voice actress Sayumi Suzushiro. Some of her projects include Shine Post, Bloom Into You, and Kaguya-Sama: Love is war.

Whereas, the English voice for the character is provided by the Taiwanese-Chinese-American voice actor Emi Lo.

4. Henry VI

Henry VI is the ruler of the House of Lancaster. Being a Christian, he does not like fighting, killing, and conflicts. Also, when he was roaming around the jungle he meets Richard III. Additionally, he has no idea about who is Richard III. And same goes for Richard. Furthermore, he is not much intelligent so his wife, Margaret takes care of the army. When Richard says that he loves being under the beautiful sky leads him to hate the post of the king. Even more, Henry hates women very much. Similarly, even his wife too. The reason he started to woman this much is after finding his mother involved in adultery.

The Japanese voice for the character is played by the Japanese voice actor Hikaru Midorikawa. Also, the English voice for the character is provided by the American voice actor Landon McDonald.

5. Edward of Lancaster

Edward’s father’s name is Henry VI. Edward is intrigued by Richard III and wonders why he got referred to as a monster. Then, he tears the clothes of Richard and comes to know that Richard is a girl. Moreover, he starts to have an interest in Richard. Moving on, after Warwick and Margaret got together and start as a team, his daughter marries Edward.

The Japanese voice for the character is voiced by the Japanese voice actor Kōhei Amasaki. In the 13th Seiyuu Awards, he won Best New Actor Award and Singing Award.

6. Edward of York

Edward’s father is Richard, Duke of York. After his father’s death, he took over the throne. Moreover, he loves his father a lot and helps him while fighting with the Lancaster. Then, as his father dies, he started to do hard work in order to save the throne and kingdom. After all, he got crowned as the king of England. As well, He has a natural affinity with women. Later, he got a crush on a beautiful girl, Elizabeth Woodville. Kater after being a king marries her without anyone knowing. Moving on Jane provides him the love potion in order to capture him. As a result, he becomes unwell and dies.

The Japanese voice for the character is provided by the Japanese voice actor Kohsuke Toriumi. Some of his projects include Black Clover, Bleach, and One Punch Man.

7. Margaret

Margaret is the queen of England. The love between Margaret and Henry does not work as she still has feelings for her old lover William. In addition, she hates the attitude of Henry. Additionally, the attitude to want peace and stop fighting and killing. Moreover, as Henry does not involve in fighting, Margaret takes control of the army. Later they lose to Richard II, while Margaret somehow has the counterattack. Which saves the throne, and Margaret keeps Richard II as a toy after she defeated him.

The Japanese voice for the character is contributed by the Japanese voice actress Sayaka Ohara. In this anime world, she is known for providing a voice for anime like Fate/Zero, Cowboy Bepop, and InuYasha.

8. George

The father of George is Richard, Duke of York. While doing works George does not think very much. As well, he does whatever comes to his mind, which makes some of the girls think that he is dumb. After Edward got the throne, he got aligned with Warwick. Moreover, he keeps on drinking a lot as he doesn’t like the current ling, Edward. Later, his habit of drinking increases more after the death of his love Isabelle. Which gives him a tragedy that leads him to kill Isabelle’s maid.

The Japanese voice for the character is portrayed by the Japanese actor and voice actor Yasuaki Takumi.
