My Dress-Up Darling

My Dress-Up Darling is a romantic comedy and slice of life Japanese manga and anime. The manga is written and illustrated by the Manga Artist, Shinichi Fukuda. On January 19, 2018, the manga was first serialized in Square Enix’s Young Gangan.

Moving towards the anime, it was first aired on January 9, 2022, in Tokyo MX. The anime is directed by the director, Keisuke Shinohara. And written by Yoriko Tomita. Also, the anime is licensed by Funimation and Muse Communication.

Main Plot

The main plot of the anime is based on first-year high school student, Wakana Gojo. He has a dream of becoming a craftsman for the Japanese Doll Festival. One day one of his classmates Marin Kitagawa sees him making doll costumes in the clothing room of the school. Kitagawa’s dream was to become the finest cosplay. By looking at his sewing technique and skill he asks him to make one for her. The costume she asks was of a character of a game whom she loves the most. It was a difficult task for Wakana, but he accepted to make the costume for her. Later, she falls for him as they starts to work together with each other.

1. Marin Kitagawa of My Dress-Up Darling

 • Age: 15-16

 • Height: 164 cm

Marin Kitagawa is a beautiful girl of tall height. Furthermore, she is very active and energetic. Moreover, she is in the same class as Wakana Gojo. Her mother died when she was very young. And as of now, she is living with her father. Also, she is a great otaku and has watched various magical girl anime, Otome games, and even adult video games. After getting a good response from her first cosplay, she falls for Gojo as he praises her. Which makes their relationship grow more. They both work as a team collaborating with each other. Later, she starts to come to the house of Gono with food.

The Japanese voice for the character is provided by the Japanese voice actress and singer Hina Suguta. Hina is affiliated with Animo Produce.

Moving towards the English dubbed version, the voice actor, Amanda Lee portrayed the character. Apart from being a voice actor, she is also a singer, voice actress, and YouTuber by profession. She has a YouTube Channel named Monarch.

2. Wakana Gojo of My Dress-Up Darling

Wakana Gojo is a first-year student. Also, being an orphan he was raised and cared for by his grandfather. From his grandfather, he gets inspired to become a craftsman of Hina dolls. Additionally, he is in love with Kitagawa and it keeps on increasing as they both are working together.

At the beginning of the anime, he has no friends. As he started to spend time with Marin. It makes him understand that the world is full of joy. As well as he is fond of trying new things. The second person for whom he creates the dress is Sajuna Inui. Unwantedly, he sees her nudes of her during their first meeting. Besides it, she really loves his work and cosplay dresses.

The Japanese voice for the character is voiced by the two voice actors. For his younger self, the Japanese voice actress, Tomoyo Takayanagi contributed the voice. Tomoyo is also affiliated with Pro-fit Whereas, the adult voice for the character is provided by the Japanese voice actor Shōya Ishige.

Heading towards the English dubbed version, the American voice actor Paul Dateh provided the voice.

3. Sajuna Inui

Sajuna Inui is a second-year student. Because of her physical body and height, Gojo and Kitagawa think that she is a student from elementary school. In addition, she is very protective of her sister Shinju and wants her to become involved with everyone. Furthermore, Sajuna is a cosplayer and even named herself Juju. Even more, she also falls for Gojo and starts to have feelings. It leads her to become envious of Kitagawa. It is because she finds her becoming very close to Gojo.

The Japanese voice for the character is provided by the Japanese voice actress Atsumi Tanezaki. Previously, Atsumi was affiliated with Toritori Office. Some of her projects include Gangsta, Mob Psycho 100, and Fruits Basket.

4. Shinju Inui

Shinju Inui is a beautiful girl and sister of Sajuna Inui. Though she is young she is very tall and can fit in a dress of Gojo. Also, she is very close to her sister. When her sister cosplays, she borrows a camera from her father and becomes a photographer. Besides photography, she can also handle computers and upload images. As well as she also wants to become a part of cosplay. Thinking that she will do badly in it, she feels hesitant to try. Moving on, she finds out about the feelings of Kitagawa and Sajuna for Gojo.

The Japanese voice for the character is voiced by the Japanese voice actress Hina Yomiya. In this anime world, she is known for providing a voice for anime like Platinum End, My Senpai Is Annoying, and Sabikui Bisco.

5. Nowa Sugaya

Nowa Sugaya always appears to be very close with Marin. They both have a very good relationship. Additionally, she always has a lollipop in her hand. Also, she often wants to get a haircut and wears various accessories. Most of her hair is black but the underside of her twin tails consists of red color.

The Japanese voice for the character is provided by the Japanese voice actress Larissa Tago Takeda. Larissa is affiliated with I’m Enterprise. Some of her projects include Akudama Drives, Magia Record, and Aikatsu Stars!.

6. Miori

Miori is a cousin of Gojo. And she assumes that the girl’s lingerie is used by him. Whereas, she doesn’t know that it was for Kitagawa. So, that makes her think it is also fair to wear a male boxer, and sometimes she uses it too.

The Japanese voice for the character is provided by the Japanese voice actress Misako Tomioka. In this anime world, she is known for providing a voice for anime like Demon Slayer, Haikyuu!! and Black Clover.

7. Kaoru Gojo

Kaoru Gojo is the grandfather of Gojo. Likewise, Miori Kaoru also thought that the lingerie he bought for himself. But after meeting Kitagawa all the misunderstandings were clear. As well as he is very supportive of Gojo and lets him do everything he wants. From him, Gojo was inspired to become a craftsman and make Hina dolls.
