Who is Yoriichi Tsugikuni?

Yoriichi Tsugikuni is a legendary Demon Slayer who lived for nearly 500 years in the Sengoku Era. Among all the Demon Slayers, he is the strongest Demon Slayer to exist in the Demon Slayer Corps. Even more, he shows his appearance in anime in episode 8 whereas he has his manga debut in chapter 99 of manga. He is the one to create the Breathing Style which later turned into Sun Breathing. Adding on, it is also used by Tanjiro Kamado as well as the Kamado family.

He also has a younger twin brother Michikatsu Tsugikuni. His brother was also a demon slayer but later turns up into a demon and joins the Twelve Kizuki. The description of Yoriichi Tsugikuni is as follows:

Yoriichi Tsugikuni Family

Yoriichi was born along with his twin brother Michikatsu in the Sengoku period. In this period, twins were supposed to be an extremely bad omen. When Yoriichi was born he has a different mark on his forehead. So, his father declares that he will kill him. Whereas, his mother turns up and becomes angry to stop him. Later, his father agrees under one condition. The condition was at the age of ten Yoriichi must go to a temple and live as a monk.

Though his father thought that the mark on his forehead, was providing him more strength as well as the ability to see living beings’ bodies in transparency. He was treated so badly as he was given less food and education as compared to his brother. Even more, his room was a small three-tatami room that was very far from the house. Yoriichi does not speak at all and was thought of as deaf. So, his mother, Akeno Tsugikuni gave him Hanafuda charm earrings thinking god will bless him and help him to speak up.

Most of the time, he keeps snatching around his mother. One day smiles and says he wants to become a samurai after watching his brother practicing sword swings. But, his brother said that he will not be able to as he must go to the temple as he becomes 10. Whereas, one of his father’s descendants who was giving training to his brother tends to humor Yoriichi giving him a stance. Then, Yoriichi flew and hit him four times to take him down and shocked his brother. His brother asked him how he was able to do so, he describes it as his first breathing form. His mother died because of illness and he visits his brother’s room in order to leave and heads toward the temple.

How did Yoriichi Tsugikuni become a demon slayer?

Yoriichi Tsugikuni once goes to summon a midwife, and he promises his wife that he will return home back before the sun set. While he was on the way he help out an old man and waste his time. So, he plans to return to his home. But, when he returns home, he finds out that his wife has been killed by a demon. This incident made him very heartbroken and he kept the dead body of his wife in his arms for straight ten days. Later, Demon Slayer advised and buried the body. As a result, he picks up the blade and trained harder to become a demon slayer.

Who is wife of Yoriichi Tsugikuni?

The name of the wife of Yoriichi is Uta. Uta was only 10 years old when she first met Yoriichi. She was standing alone in the rice field and Yoriichi asked her what she is doing there. So, as a reply, Uta said her parents are killed by the demon and she has no one. Thus, she is collecting tadpoles in a barrel to take them as her company.

After, 10 years of their first meeting they married each other. Even more, she becomes pregnant too. Unfortunately, she gets killed by the demon along with the child she was carrying.

Who is Yoriichi Tsugikuni to Tanjiro Kamado? Is Yoriichi Tsugikuni father of Tanjiro Kamado?

Most of the watcher of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba believes that Yoriichi is the father of Tanjiro. But, it is not the truth at all. Anyway, Yoriichi is the one who taught Tanjiro’s ancestors, Hinokami Kagura about breathing techniques and sun breathing techniques. Therefore, Tanjiro Kamado is able to perform the Sun Breathing Technique. As a result, Yoriichi and Tanjiro do not have a father-and-son relationship. Whereas, Yoriichi is just a person who passed a breathing technique to the generation of Tanjiro.

Sun Breathing Technique

Yoriichi Tsugikuni created The Sun Breathing technique created which consist of 12 technique and each technique is connected together. Adding on, when he was fighting with Muzan, he perfect his swordsmanship and created a 13 form which is unnamed. The users of the sun breathing technique are Yoriichi Tsugikuni, Sumiyoshi, Tanjuro, and Tanjiro Kamado.

Yoriichi vs Muzan

The battle between the Yoriichi and Muzan was one of the good battles of the anime series. During the fight, Yoriichi was too powerful and easily overcame Muzan. Although, Muzan is also not weaker too as he is able to handle the fight with five hashira along with Tanjiro at a time. As the fight keeps on going, Yoriichi was finding every weak point of Muzan. As a result, Yoriichi easily won against Muzan. But, in the meantime, Muzan managed to escape and was scared a lot by the battle and the techniques of Yoriichi.

Why Muzan is afraid of Yoriichi Tsugikinu?

From the childhood of Yoriichi, he seems to act as a very calm type of person. Also, he does even not show his emotions too. Even more, the mark on his forehead during his birth has added more strength to him. Due to it, he can also see the movements and internal organs of living beings in transparency. So, while fighting he fights easily without blood lust. Altogether, bringing up the easy battle without mal Muzan is scared of Yoriichi Tsugikinu. Further, he even fears the Hanofuda earrings that Yoriichi uses to wear.

Who killed Yoriichi Tsugikinu?

Yoriichi battled his brother, Kokushibo who was already turned into a demon when he was 85 years old. During the fight, because of his age, Yoriichi was blind and too old. But, he still holds the fight easily with his brother. Also, he slits Kokushibo throat and died standing up. Thus, Yoriichi Tsugikunu died because of old age as every human being dies.
