Dark Gathering

Dark Gathering is an adventure, horror, and supernatural Japanese anime and manga series. The manga was first serialized on March 4, 2019, in the magazine Jump Square. As well, the manga is written and illustrated by the manga artist, Kenichi Kondo. In addition, there have been 13 volumes of manga till now.

Moving towards the anime, the anime was first aired on July 10, 2023, on the original network, Tokyo MX. Also, the anime is directed by the director, Hiroshi Ikehata. As of now, there are 19 episodes in the series. The IMDb rating of the anime series is 7.3 out of 10.

Main Plot

The main plot of the series follows a young boy name Keitaro Gentoga, who is a freshman. Even more, he does not like things about ghosts. Unfortunately, he is the one who attracts the spirits. Due to his connection to the spirit, he also had a spiritual injury to his right hand two years ago. In which his friend was caught in the crossfire. It makes him an anti-social person. Anyway, he manages to coordinate with society with the help of his friend, Eiko Hozuki. Then, he starts his part-time job as a tutor.

His student was a cousin of his friend Eiko. Her name was Yayoi Hozuki, and she also has a similar connection to spirits like Keitaro. But she was encountering the ghost, which took her mother away. As a result, Keitaro was the one who was also dragged into this. Though he wanted to be away from the ghost, he was again dragged into this.

Main Characters

Yayoi Hozuki

Yayoi Hozuki is the main protagonist of the series. Also, she has a special spiritual constitution. It allows her to know and find the presence of the spirits. In appearance, she is a short girl with purple hair. In her past, she was not able to see life and death. In addition, she was able to find it after the car accident when she was young. After the accident, her IQ was raised to 160.

Due to this, she was able to gain new intelligence. Thus, it makes her able to find the presence of ghosts and hunt them down easily. As of now, she is collecting dangerous ghosts to get more power. The reason for it is to revive her mother’s spirit from the evil ghost, Kuubo. After capturing the ghost, she purified it into substitute dolls.

Keitaro Gentoga

Keitaro Gentoga is a university student. He is a good-looking young man. Also, he has a special ability, which makes him have a spiritual constitution. Even more, he is also a childhood friend of Eiko Hozuki. Later, they also had a romantic relationship with each other. Though he has spiritual conviction, he hates ghosts and does not like to go to haunted places.

Even more, he can also feel the presence of spiritual beings. As he is different from normal human beings, he keeps on meditating a lot. It was none other than his grandmother who helped a lot for him in this. Moving on, he becomes the private tutor of Eiko’s cousin, Yayoi. Further, Yayoi also has a similar type of constitution to spirits like him.

Eiko Hozuki

Eiko Hozuki is a childhood friend of Keitaro Gentoga. As of now, she is a girlfriend of Keitaro. In addition, she is a very kind girl who loves her cousin a lot. Likewise, she also loves her boyfriend a lot. She cares a lot about him. As a result, she also gives him fashionable glasses. But it was not only to look stylish. She had GPS tracking on him. Even more, she has a driving license and uses it to drive her car.

As a result, she is the one who takes the group towards the various haunted places. In her appearance, she is a beautiful girl with orange-colored hair. Along with it, she wears red earrings in both ears. Most of the time, she seems to be wearing pink gloves on her hands.

The Black Asura of the Eclipse

The Black Asura of the Eclipse is a powerful S+ rank ghost. When he was alive, he used to live with his father and stepmother. One day, his mother killed his father and changed his body into meatballs. Later, she gives him those meatballs to dispose of. Whereas, due to starvation, he eats those meatballs. Heading on, his mother also killed him one day, creating meatballs like his father’s body.

Thus, he changes into a ghost and sees everyone as his stepmother. He comes to peace after meeting Yayoi. So, he agrees to stay with the doll. In addition, his main power is in the sketchbook. Also, he can damage the chest and change the person’s body into a meatball by drawing it into a sketchbook and rubbing it.

Brain Ghost

Brain Ghost is one of the ghosts in the series who appears in Chapter 10 of the manga. Even more, he used to haunt people in the elevator in the apartment complex of Ai Kamiyo. Most of the time, the brain ghost used to wear a wooden type of jacket.

Further, he has an oval face with unblinking eyes. The brain ghost is dangerous as it heavily focuses on manipulating the brains of people.

Mr. Sakashita

Mr. Sakashita is a ghost who appeared at Tokikoudai Elementary School. Before turning into a ghost, he was a teacher and used to love children a lot. But he changed his personality for children later. It was because one of his students made a fake assumption about him for sexual abuse.

Due to the same incident, the teachers and students used to bully him. His wife also left him. As a result, he chose to kill him with the curse. Which changes him into a ghost. Later, Yayoi breaks his curse and exorcizes his soul.
