Tomo-chan Is a Girl! (Tomo-chan wa Onnakono!) is a romantic comedy and slice-of-life Japanese anime and four-panel manga series. The manga was first serialized on April 7, 2015, on the Twi4 Twitter account. The manga is written and illustrated by the Manga Artist, Fumita Yanagida.
Moving towards the anime, the anime was first aired on January 5, 2023, on the original Network, Tokyo MX. The anime was directed by the director Hitoshi Nanba. As of now, the anime has 13 lists episodes.
Main Plot
The main plot of the anime follows a tomboy, Tomo Aizawa. She has a best friend named Jun Kubota with whom she spends time a lot. Adding on, they both do everything together including training to the fun day. Their issue with their friendship starts when tomboy, Tomo starts to fall in love and has a love interest over Jun.
At the start of high school, Tomo explains her feelings to Jun. But, Jun rather think of her as his brother and has no romantic feelings for her. Even more, Jun hesitates her confession. Whereas, Tomo tries to win his heart every time but ends up without getting success on it.
Characters
Tomo Aizawa
Tomo Aizawa is the main protagonist of the series Tomo-chan IS a Girl! Adding on, Tomo is a girl with a height estimated to be 5 feet 5 inches. Also, she is a tomboy and a high school student. As well, she is very good at sports and even joined the Karate Club.
Heading on, she has a crush and love interest on her best friend Jun Kubota. Whereas, Jun hesitates about her proposal and thinks of her as a brother. She has two personality sides that is when she is playing sports she seems to be very competitive and wants to win whereas when she is in front of Jun, she feels shy.
Junichirou Kubota
Junichirou Kubota is also known as Jun Kubota. As of now, he is 16 years old (after Chapter 755). Moving towards his appearance, he is very handsome. Adding on, he has the black color of hair and brown color of eyes.
He becomes very aggressive when Tomo Aizawa is near her. His childhood friend Tomo Aizawa falls in love with him and even confesses to him. But, he has seen her as her only brother. He only knew she was a girl when she was in middle high school.
Misuzu Gundou
Misuzu Gundoi is a childhood friend of Tomo Aizawa. She seems to be a short girl with beauty in her appearance. She is as much beautiful as her mother, Misaki Gundou. Adding on, she is a very different type of person as she is very cold and feels fun manipulating people.
During the time of middle school, she even goes on date with Jun. The date was actually 40 km bike rider with the harder exercise to perform the next day. Due to this she lost 5 kg and planned never to go on a date. As a result, she broke up with Jun.
Tatsumi Tanabe
Tatsumi Tanabe shows his appearance in Chapter 26 of the manga. He has spike hair with brown color. As of now, he is just a 15-year-old bot but is very excited about girls and sex. Adding on, he is a perverted boy who use to fall for every girl.
His personality changes after he starts to have a crush on Misuzu. Even more, he falls for Misizu when he saw her giving him a death glare telling him to stay away from Tomo. Later, he was also able to get contact information for Misuzu.
Carol Oston
Carol Oston is a friend of Tomo Aizawa. Adding on, her origin is Britain. Heading her appearance, she has blonde curly hair. Even more, she is very airhead and seems like a copy of her mother. As her origin is Britain, she is very cheerful towards modern society.
She was even near to death while heading after a butterfly as she was almost on the road. But, Kousuke was able to save her. In addition, Carol does not like people who use to bully others. An example of it is she hit Kuniki when he bullies Kousuke.
Kousuke Misaki
Kousuke Misaki is senior of Tomo’s school. Tomo and the students below her grade call him Misaki-senpai. Though, he is a boy he has a girly face. When Jun first saw his picture, he thought she was a girl. Even though, he shows a lack of courage, he is a very strong boy.
Adding on, he was actually a foreign looking child in his third age. Because of this, he was bullied. One day, Carol becomes his friend and plays counting prime numbers with him. Later, Carol has his back and fights with those who bully him.
Is Tomo-chan Is a Girl! Worth watching?
It is a new anime with a fresh and good concept. The anime fans who have watched Kaguya Sama: Love is War and any other romantic-comedy anime will love this anime. Heading on, the anime does not focus on the harem plotline and chooses to explore how antiquated gender norms will be finding their love. So, the anime stands as unique own its very different plotline.
Heading toward the cast, the cast has also done a great job. Even more, the anime sounds are done great which does not let us feel out of touch. It has covered up it’s all area. Along with the storyline, the sound, and the romance have made the anime better to watch. Thus, Tomo-chan Is a Girl! Stands as one of the best romantic comedy anime which will be worth watching.
