The Blue Wolves of Mibu
The Blue Wolves of Mibu is a Japanese Manga and anime. Tsuyoshi Yasuda is the illustrator and writer of the historical manga.
On 13th October 2021, the manga was serialized in the Weekly Shonen Magazine. The anime based on the manga will be aired on the 19th of October 2024 with the same name as the manga. To date, 15 volumes of the manga have been released. The upcoming anime is directed by Kumiko Habara and written by Kenta Ihara.
What is the Main Plot of The Blue Wolves of Mibu?
The manga, The Blue Wolves of Mibu is set in the 18th Century in Kyoto, Japan. At the time, Kyoto became a rallying place for pro-imperialist forces seeking to restore the emperor to power and cast out all Western influences. This restorationist filled the streets will cries to revere the emperor and expel the barbarians.

To maintain the peace and protect their administration in the city, the shogunate organized a group of warrior samurai to serve as a special police force known as the Mibu Roshihgumi which means masterless samurai of Mibu.
The plot of the manga follows the story of a kind and righteous boy, Chirinu Nio‘s journey. This journey started with his entry into the group, Mibu Roshihgumi for the peace and prosperity of the lower-level people like him and which continues as he becomes one of the most fierce swordsmen of the group, Mibu Roshihgumi.
Characters of The Blue Wolves of Mibu
Nio Chirinu
Nio Chirinu is the main character of the series, The Blue Wolves of Mibu. He is a young boy with an extremely kind heart and a strong sense of justice. He is an orphan raised by an old lady who happens to be restaurateur by a profession. She adopted Nio from a temple as his real parents abandoned him.

He grew up with Iroha, both raised by the old lady. Together, they share a very strong bond as a family where Nio treats Iroha as his sister. However, one night time, while going home back, some kidnappers attacked Iroha and Nio who stole children. At the time, two of his customers; Hijikata and Okita saved them.
Following the incident, he got emotional and burst into saying that people like him just like dogs, someone might use them and kick them out of their homes as they desire and cried a lot. At the time, he said that he wanted to be strong for weak people like him. Then Hijikata and Okita asked him if he wanted to join the Mibu to get strong and eventually, he joined the Mibu to get strong.
The voice actor, Shūichirō Umeda voiced the character, Nio in the Japanese Version. Umeda received the 17th Seiyu Awards for the Best New Actor Category.
He is well-known for his characters such as Saybil in The Dawn of the Witch, Akira Tendo in Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, and Yuuko Izumi in Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie.
Chirinu Iroha
Chirinu Iroha is a supporting character in the manga and anime series. She is also an orphan like Nio Chirinu. After some time of her birth, her parents passed away. After that, the Granny got her in and raised her as his granddaughter.

Together with Nio and Granny, she spent a good childhood helping Granny run the restaurant that Granny owns. After some time, she was going to live with a noble family as a family member.
The voice for the character is provided by the voice actor, Yuko Natsuyoshi. The voice actress from the Osaka Prefecture is currently working with Ken Production.
Yuko is popular for her characters such as Himeko Mashima in Show By Rock, Sasha Necron in The Misfit of Demon King Academy, and Tsubaki in In the Heart of Kunoichi Tsubaki.
Hijikata Toshizo

Toshizo is the deuteragonist of the Japanese anime and manga series, The Blue Wolves of Mibu. In the series, he is one of the three wolves of Mibu. As a special police, they patrol at night time prevent the crimes that take place in Kyoto city by taking all the means.
The voice actor, Yōhei Azakami is providing the voice of the character. Currently, Azakami is working with the talent management agency, Aoni Production. He is widely famous as the voice behind the character, Guel Jeturk in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury.
Okita Soji
Okita Soji is one of the main characters of the series. He is also a member of Mibu Roshihgumi. He made his first appearance in the manga in chapter 1 of the series. Like all the members of Mibu, he also fights for justice and to eliminate the crimes of Kyoto City.

The Japanese voice actor, Kensho Ono provided the voice to the character. He is popular for providing voice in anime including Kuroko’s Basketball, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and Prince of Tennis. Next, in 2025, he is providing voice in the anime, Ameku Takao’s Detective Karte as Yu Takanashi.
Saito Hajime
Saitō Hajime is a supporting character in the anime. He is also a younger member of the Mibu Roshihgumi. The character made his debut in the 2nd chapter of the manga.

The Japanese voice actor, Chiaki Kobayashi is providing voice to the character. The voice actor, Chiaki is famous for providing the voice for Gabimaru in Hell’s Paradise, Mash Burnedead in Mashle, and Hiroto Kuga in Gundam Build Divers Re: Rise.
Taro Tanaka
Taro Tanaka is a supporting character in the manga and anime series. He is a member of Mibu Roshihgumi. He is of the age of Nio Chirinu. As a member of Mibu, he is also bound to work for the peace and prosperity of the country.

The voice artist, Shun Horie voiced the character, Taro Tanaka. He is a member of the Japanese voice-acting agency, Pro-Fit Inc. He is renowned for providing a voice to anime series including Age 12: A Little Heart-Pounding, Juni Taisen: Zodiac War, and Black Clover as Asta
Serizawa Kamo
Serizawa Kamo is a supporting character in the anime and manga series, The Blue Wolves of Mibu. He is a member of Mibu Roshihgumi. Talking about his position, he is the main commander of the Mibu Roshihgumi.

The character is voiced by the Japanese voice actor, Ryōta Takeuchi. Currently, the voice actor is working with Aoni Production. He has been part of more than 100 anime series including Classroom of the Elite, My Hero Academia, and Dr. Stone.
Isami Kondo
Isami Kondo is a supporting character in the Japanese anime and manga series, The Blue Wolves of Mibu. He is a member of Mibu Roshihgumi.

The Japanese voice for the character is provided by the voice actor, Tomokazu Sugita. “Deep Bass Voice” is his characterized feature. Currently, he is working with the talent management agency, AGRS.
