Who is Yamada Asaemon Tenza?
Yamada Asaemon Tenza is a supporting character in the series. Adding on, he is the 10th-rank Asaemon of the Yamada Clan. The shoguns were also called for the secret mission to get the elixir of immortality.
The one who completed it was going to be pardoned for their crimes. So Tenza also joined the expedition team as Yamada Asaemon’s monitor and was assigned to keep an eye on the criminal, Nurugai.

The Japanese voice for the character is provided by the Japanese voice actor, Yusuke Kobayashi. whereas the English voice for the character is contributed by the American voice actor, Ben Balmaceda.
Appearance
Tenza is a very young boy with blonde hair and brown eyes. Adding to that, he wears the standard attire of Asaemon. Along with it, he wears a white robe as well as bells in his collars. Even more, he also wears a headband that is made of metal and has cross scratches on it.
Yamada Asaemon Tenza: Backstory
Tenza was born into a very poor family, so his parents do not care much about him. As a result, he started living on his own. One day, he was beating samurai when he was stopped by Shion. Adding on to that, he also tried to attack Shion but was stopped by him. Later, Shion offered him a place in the Yamada clan. Heading on, Tenza accepts and becomes a student of Shion.
From then on, he started learning swordsmanship from Shion. After all, he was a legendary islander. Shinsenkyo was discovered, and he and other Asaemon were tasked by the shogun to recruit the expedition team in order to retrieve the Elixir of Life. The reward for it was pardon for the crimes of criminals. In addition, he was there to look after Nurugai.

In his childhood, he was strong enough to beat grown men. Furthermore, as Shion finds him, he grows stronger through his training.

Later, Shion takes him to the Yamada clan, and he becomes one of the Asaemon. Being an Asaemon, he had mastery over swordsmanship. As well, he was very fast and accurate while using the swords. Also, Shion has mentioned that his sword-using skills still need improvement.
Tenza’s Death
Tenza was the one heading her to the prison. After hearing why Nurugai was sentenced to death, she thought that Nurugai was innocent. Nurugai was sentenced to death because she was from a different tribe. As a result, he wants her to live. So, Tenza requests that she accept the mission, as she has a chance to survive if she completes it.
When Zhu Jin was there to attack Norugai, he fought bravely and sacrificed himself to make Shion and Norugai run from there. While stopping Zhu Jin, Zhu Zin was able to defeat him, and he was fatally wounded, which led to his sad death in the series.
